HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

SUCCESSFUL ENTERTAINMENT.

The Hutt Valley High School held a successful concert in St. James's Hall, Lower Hutt, last night. The programme was excellent, showing that a great deal of time had been spent in preparation, and reflected great credit on the teachers concerned. The concert opened with a folk dance, which was well executed, and was well received by the large audience. The next item was a short play, well performed, entitled "The Master of Dreams," and this was followed by another concerted item. After the interval the boys presented a gymnastic display. Following this was a display of another side of school life, showing a short turn of boxing ,and jiu-jitsu. Another folk dance followed, and then came the star turn of the programme, a portion of the court scene of the "Merchant of Venice," all players being in the costumes of the period. This was very well performed, Miss G. Gieson as Portia and Master F. Hastings as Shylock being -worthy of special mention.
