BRIDGING THE AVON
AN OBJECTION RAISED
LEGAL ACTION PENDING.
(By Toleuraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day
Regarding tho bridgo to rcpluco the existing tramway bridge over the Avon at Scavicw road, Brighton, to the plans of which an objection has been taken on the ground of inadequacy of clearance, Mr. A. _. Wright, acting for Mi-. R. B. Owen, lias received a communication from the Attorney-General to the effect that the solicitor for the Brighton Borough (Mr. J. A. Fles-ier) has written to him stating that tho erection- of the bridge is a matter of urgency, and consequently tho Attor-ney-General advises that any action in the Courts attempted by tho objectors must be begun within 21 days;
Mr. Owen told a reporter on Saturday that "tho fight is now on," and that steps necessary to institute a suit for an injunction to restrain tho borough from erecting the new ferroconcrete bridge will be takon at once. The object of those interesting themselves in tho matter is to prevent tho Avon being "bottled up" by the-low clearance of the bridge, thus preventing the .navigation of the river by motor-launches and other craft. It is intended to raise a fighting fund to defray the cost of legal proceedings.
