TEN SHILLING BETS
NO FACILITIES ON AUCKLAND
LAWN.
(By Telegraph.— Progs Association.)
AUCKLAND, 11th September. A requisition, signed by 261 members of the club, asking for the installation of the 10s tote in the saddling paddock, was presented to the Auckland Racing Club. Of 271 members to whom the requisition was presented, only ten refused to sign. Others residing in country districts were not approached.
It is contended that racegoers, no matter what part of the course they patronise, are entitled to facilities for making a 10s investn__t, and one strong point made compares the existing position with what would have been applied had the Hon. Mr. Mitchelson succeeded in getting his amendments in the Gaming Bill passed. At the present moment, a man of the highest standing in the community pays lis 6d admission to the lawn, but cannot make a 10s bet unless he can find some other to make up the price of a £1 ticket. On the other hand, if the Hon. Mr. Mitchelson had been successful in getting the Gaming _ Act amended to allow of money being wired to courses, anybody, including undesirables not allowed on courses, could have wired bets of 10s, and the clubs would have been compelled to accept .them.
