In the unavoidable absence of Mr. George Scott, who has not yet returned from England, Mr. E. Reynolds (Wellington) presided, and welcomed the delegates. The Mayor (Mr. A. The retailers- and wholesalers then held their annual meetings separately. Mr. G. Dash (Waimate) was elected president of the Eetailers' Association. The annual report was adopted, but further consideration of several matters mentioned in it was held over. The president stated that the balance-sheet disclosed a highly satisfactory state of affairs, and by various means the secretary (Mr. 3. F. Cousins) had built up a big revenue in addition to money received as subscriptions. To-morrow the conference will be occupied in considering remits.
