ASSISTED IMMIGRANTS
FAREWELLED BY SIB JAMES PAEE.
(Sydney Sun Cable.)
(Beceived 27th August, 2 p.m.)
LONDON, 26th August. Sir James and Lady Parr visited Southampton for the first time since Sir James's appointment, and farewelled migrants on the Buapehu, including 20 public school boys and 30 domestics. The assisted immigrants total 232, and are of a healthy, useful type. ■ ■' -
Sir James spent the morning chatting to the migrants, and told the schoolboys they were going to a land of abundant promise. Sir James found that every adult in the party already had relatives in New Zealand, who had secured employment and housing for them beforehand.
Without revealing his identity dur» ing his chat with the migrants, Sir James Parr learned I;hat many of the domestics were going out to New Zea-' laud with the principal idea of finding husbands. They had heard that there, is a surplus of 25,000 men, and hope to get some of them.
