PRIVATE COMMENT
AUSTRALIANS' ABSENCE PEOM
ENTERTAINMENTS.
LONDON, 25th August.
A surprising amount of private comment bears out the complaint against the non-attendanco of Australian cricketers at functions arranged in their honour, beginning on their first day in London, when there were many vacant guest chairs at the Institute of Journalists' memorable luncheon. This was the beginning of a chapter of misunderstanding, from which a harmful impression was created concerning players' grievances. After their reported denial seriatim of discontent in their ranks, it is sufficient to mention their dissatisfaction at having to pay their own fares to the ground by tram and bus. It is learned that a number of players complained to a visiting international, and asked him to take the matter up with the manager.
