(By Ttltgnph.)
(Spsetal to "Th» Evtnlni Part.")
DUNEDIN, 26th August.
In connection with the closing of the Kawarau dam gates on Monday, a special board has been set up by the Government in accordance with the conditions of the license to construct the dam. The powers of the board are restricted and by no means general. Its chief function will be to determine as to tho opening or closing of the dam gates when a flood is threatening on the lake or when tho rivers below the falls are in flood. The other powers of the board are mostly in the direction of lecting money to pay the expenses incurred by t(he board. The activity on the river is well maintained, and many companies have arrangements well advanced for the closing of the gates.
