LODGE MEETINGS

Pioneer Lodge, No. 11, 1.0. G.T., held it! weekly meeting in the Webb Street Mission Uall on 23rd August, C.T. Ibi. Devoreaux presiding. After the routine business, the meeting was declared an open night, and visitors wore admitted. Adjutant Hayes (Salvation Army) and his motoring melodists took charge of the programme. The adjutant Introduced the party—Captain Dutton, Captain Mahaffie, Captain Stanton, and Staff Captain Caporne. After the performances Bro. Pethericlc moved a hearty vote of thanks to the officers. This was seconded by Sister Blchards and carried by acclamation. On the resumption of business, two candidates were presented for readmission and received. D.C.T., Bro. Hirst, made an announcement regarding the quarterly meeting of the District Lodge. The meeting closed with the usual ceremonies at 10 p.m. ; The 21st August was a red-letter day in the annals of Rechabitlsm in Carterton, i real live Juvenile Tent having been started. The district officials turned up in full force. There were present Brothor Heyward, D.S.J.T., Sister DaTis, D.S.F.M., Brother Davis, aetlng-D.OR., Brother Jeffreys, actlng-D.D.R., Brother Gaudin, actlngD.P.C.R., Brother Balgent, Provincial SJ.T., Brother Tempest, Provincial Levlte. The proceedings commenced at 6.45 p.m., and the hall was full of enthusiastic juveniles, parents, visitors, and local Hechabite officers. Fourteen juveniles were initiated, and afterwards elected their own officers. The Tent was called "Tararua" Tent, a most suitable name, as at present the Tararuas are snow-clad and are a striking example or symbol of the purity which should be one of the first objects of Kechabitism. Deep regret was felt at the absence of Bro. Fathers, district secretary, who had besn busy making arrangements for the opening and was suddenly taken seriously ill. All present hoped for his speedy recovery. Bro. Davis addressed the juveniles, and also taught them a special way of welcoming visitors to the Tent. Short addresses were delivered by Sister Davis, who explained the cradle roll system; Bro. Jeffreys, who read a letter of greeting from the Excelsior Juveniles, Wellington, Bro. Gaudin, Bro. Balgent. who brought greetings from Victory Tent, Lower Hutt; and Bro. Tempest. Bro. Heyward read a letter from the provincial C.R., Bro. Goodhall, who sent greetings. The various competitions in connection with Juvenile work were explained, and although there !> only five months to run, the juveniles are going to try and win some laurels. Bro. Davis, on behalf of Sister Davit and himself, and also Bro. Beyward, gave donations for a prize fund. The Tararua juveniles send fraternal greetings to all other t«nti In the Dominion.

Wells were appointed to go into the scheme and report at the next quarterly meeting. A report from the Social Committee was adopted.
