Athletic 2<> I'elouo 2University 39 I'oncko '■ Oriental 0 Marist i Wellington M n|,l Bnys ) Selwyn 12 Hutt 0 lierliampore, a bye.

After a break of one Saturday, made necessary by the Wellington-Hawkes Bay match, the senior A Grade championship competition was resumed on Saturday under conditions which were favourable except for the prevalence o£ a 'strong northerly wind. The main games attracted considerable interest, as Athletic ■were now being closely followed by University in the run to final honours. Athletic were opposed by Petone and University by Ponekc. With only two points separating the two leading teams, the position was very interesting. As events turned out, the state of the poll remained the same, but Athletic had a close call, their game with Potonc being full' of excitement. It was not until the final whistle blew that Athletic were comfortable, and then they had only four points to the good out of a total of forty-eight. University won comfortably from Poneke. The final between Athletic and University is to bo played on Saturday week, and as there ia still a chance of University drawin- level with the present leaders the match should bo a stirring one. In the other games on Saturday Oriental accounted for Marist, the margin in their favour bein"- made up by two penalty goals. Wellington brought off a surprise by winning decisively from Old Boys. The latter were without some of their principal players, and were right off their usual game, belwyn and Hutt had a great tussle. In the first round Selwyn had beaten Hutt, and on Saturday they made doubly sure of superiority over the suburbanites. Championship points are now as follow: Finalists: Athletic 24, University 22, Oriental 19, Petone 16, Marist 14, Poneke 10. Others: Berhainpore 14, Old Boys 12, \Vcllington 7, Selwyn 6, Hutt 0.
