"STELLA DALLAS."
Every once in a while there comes a picture that is so outstanding in its appeal, that it becomes a sort of standard by which subsequent offerings are judged. Such a picture is "Stella Dallas," the United Artists Film Company's attraction, which commences screening at the De Luxe Theatre on Friday, with a matinee on Saturday, at 2.30. The merits of this picture are remarkable, in that it has no pretensions—it is merely a simple story of simple people, told in a straightforward way. Stella Dallas can rightly be claimed to be a screen masterpiece, too great to convey in words, too big in scenes, story, and splendour for pen to paint, for between tears and laughter one sees the greatest heart-appeal pliotplays since "Humoresque" and "Over the Hill." Belle Bennett has the title role, and she gives a performance that marks the greatest effort of her career. Lois Moran and Alice Joyce both have excellent roles, while Ronald Colman plays the part of Stephen. A special musical score will be played by the Orchestra De Luxe. Patrons are asked .to note that "Stella Dallas" will be screened at 8.15 owing to the length of the film. The box plans are open at The Bristol, Aitken's Book Arcade, or ring the theatre.
