Mr. E. E. Hayes was born in Dunedin in 1869, joining the Postal Service, as <i cadet at the early ago of 14, and being transferred to the controller and ac countant branch at tho head Wellington office in 1890. In 1903 he was appointed accountant to the Tourist and Industries Department, and in 1906 promoted to be Begistrar of Triendly Societies On the passing of the National Provident Act the establishment of the scheme was entrusted to him 83 superintendent of tho fund. Mr. Hayes, wh: is a member of the National Provident and Teachers' Superannuation Boards, is well known throughout the friendly societies of the Dominion in connection with reforms in the finance of the benefit funds. . . •■ • .
