The captain of a Bhip which left its usual course in plying between Baku and the Persian port Enzeli recently discovered an old Asiatic city buried beneath the waters of the Caspian Sea. Streets, mosques, and houses of Eastern architectural design could be clearly made out in the shallower stretches of the sea. It is thought this town is the ancient HarabaSliater which sank beneath the Caspian Sea after an earthquake 300 years ago. The fishermen of the Caspian insist that there are several such towns at the bottom of the sea, and that some of them can be seen on clear days.
