LATE SPORTING

TRENTHAM NOTES

(By "Vedette.")

There was a very welcome change in the weather at Trenthanx this morning, the work being disposed of in sunshine with a total absence of wind. The outside of the trial grass was again in use most, but a few horses were galloped on the sand. There was a fair amount of jumping, so that the sprinkling of onlookers were in somo measure rewarded. A close examination of the course shows that it is not quite as bail as last year. Nine of Spades and Braeman were the first out, and they ran half a mile in 56 l-ssec. Master Doon aud Jubilance ran Jive furlongs in lmin 12sec. Birkeuella, Passin' Through, and Tuki were mates over two rounds at a strong half-pace, all going well. "Waterlow alone ran over half a mile in 56 l-ssec. Thursby finished just in front of Schorr after running five furlongs in lmin 13 4-53ec. Thursby could have done better. Tanadees and Tannadico jumped away at the seven-furlong barrier and ran to the furlong post in lmin 2<H see, the first half-mile taking sosee. It was a really good gallop over six furlongs and both horses went very well. They should pay their way at the meeting. Indian Sago hit out well when being sprinted up the back. Merry Damon and Sprang both moved along nicely without being asked to go fast. Buchanan did not produce Nassock this morning. Zircon ran off three times when being schooled over the hurdles in the centre of the course. He was tried on each side of his mate, Eoyal Form, who ] jumped well. Perhaps too much notice need not be taken of Zircon'a display, for a number of horses do not like fences out in the open but jump quite well on the railed course proper. The pair in company were afterwards given good pace work on the flat. Passionate and Paddon jumped away at the six-furlong barrier, and, running the first half-mile in 55sec, Passionate was going very easily in front at the finish in. lmin 24 3-ssec. Passionate, who carried B. Beed, went very well. Dick and Matu took lmin to run half a mile, and then did solid pace work. Hoariri and Lady Lois were not extended to run seven furlongs in lmin 44see, the fir/, three taking 44see. Hoariri wont very well. Ranui, Landbird, and Highway finished in that order in a run over five fences down the back of the course proper. Ranui gave tho best display, but Landbird put plenty of ginger into his effort. Highway jumped carefully but well. Titaness and Bowman jumped off at the seven-furlong post, Titaness finishing aloi.e in lmin 42 2-ssec. Bowman was pulled up a furlong from home, and showed slight signs of lameness in front as he walked away. Royal Pointer and Kilminster hit out well in a gallop over seven furlongs on tho sand. Comical went with plenty of life in a schooling gallop over three hurdles, and then did solid pace-work on the flat. Eonmark led Kaipariki in a school over the five big fences down the back of tho course, proper. Eonmark shaped well, and the hunter gave an improved display. ' Olympic and; Eoyal Diadem, both looking particularly well, strode out when doing nice work in company. Lloiyollyn ; and Kendal i^cre mates over the- five steeplechase fences. Llewellyn, through running down, seriously interfered with. Kendal a.t tho second, but the chestnut got but o: trouble with the agility of a cat. Kendal pleased more than Llewellyn, who was inclined to run down his fences as badly as ever. . Pinon and Ruffles finished well clear of Kilmozzo in a. dash over half a mile in 53}sec —a particularly good effort. Luculient, -who looks fine and hearty, strode out well over a circuit. Lady Gay beat Sarty and Town Crier in a gallop over six furlongs on the sand in lmin 19sec. Bonny Rill and Lady Comet wore sent to school over tho big fences, but Lady Comet resolutely refused at tho second, so the project was' abandoned, and- they did good pace-work on the flat. E. Hannon's horses, Curcaform, Hokioi, York Abbey, and Tinohcro,. have arrived, but were not brought to the course this morning. F. Tilley arrived this moriung with Glenross and Kilia. Whcnuanui, Elysianor, Demure, and Diamond Ring were expectod from Wanganui some time today. Mr. Eric Riddiford's most recent purchase, Buoyant, will not be a runner on the first day at Trentham.

From the South this morning there arrived thirteen horses, as follow:— Bonomel, Sayonara, and Cultiva 'on, in the charge of B. Longloy; Blue Hall and To Kawa (J. B. Pearson); Bapier, Bonatie, and Projector (H. Nurse); North Inch and Prince Ferouz '" AY. Jennings); Carnot and Charlatan '(.J. Boyd); and Ecuador (K. M'Kay). Charlatan on arrival was taken over by F. O. Porter, and A. Wormakl will come nr> later to take charge of Bonatic.
