IN NEW SOUTH WALES
UNEXPECTED DEFICIT.
SYDNEY, Ist July. The New Sonth Wales revenue for the year ended 30th June amounted to £38,649,646, compared with £38,932,235 the previous year. The expenditure amounted to £39,923,950, compared with £39,688,684 the previous year. The Colonial Treasurer, Mr. Lang, estimated that the year would end with a surplus of £13,616, whereas it ended buted the deficit chiefly to the operawith a deficit of £1,274,000., Me attritions of the railway and tramway depart ments, which showed a retrogression, compared with the previous year in the way of earnings and the cost of upkeep of £1,489,000, mostly due to drought conditions/from March to September, causing a falling-ofi in primary production generally and a. reduction of the wheat yield by 33,000,000 bushels.
