NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL MEET.

The New Zealand Council ci' tho New Zealand Football Association met last night, Mr. A. Varney in the chair. There were also present Messrs. N. J. Graves, F. Campbell, "W. G. Bryce, I\ Sanders, A. J. Hyder, B. L. Salmon, P. Eose, and J. A. Millburn. Mr. A. Menzies, chairman of the Auckland Football Association, was welcomed by the chairman, who spoke of his excellent work there. It was reported that the officers selected for the Wellington-Auckland match were: Eeferee, Mr. C. Kelly; linesmen, Messrs. "VV. F. C. Cooper and G. Gates. The question as to the desirability of obtaining neutral referees for Football Association matches was discussed. It was decided that this year local men should be appointed, Mr. F. Campbell voicing the opinion, that all referees were, or should be, neutral, and in view of the many expenses surelycapable local referees could bo obtained at the four centres at least. Permission was given to play the Taranaki v. Wanganui match at Wanganui on 17th July. A letter received from tho Otago Football Association in.regard to the primary schools tournament to be held in Wellington regretted the decision to •hold the tournament again in Wellington, as the trip had cost the Otago Association £63 last time, and it would be unable to attend on account of the expense of the tour. Mr. F. Campbell said that at the Teachers' Conference which decided the venue, the Wellington teachers had wished their own boys' to have the advantage of travel this year,'.but tho majority of the outside teachers had wished the tournament to be held in Wellington. After further discussion, in which it was pointed out that the council had not arranged the tournament, but the Schools' Association, it was decided to refer the matter to the Competitions Committee, Otago to be fully informed of the position. It was stated in roply to the Wellington Association that the following amounts in registration fees were outstanding:—Auckland £22 Is, Canterbury £11 13s, Hawkes Bay £4 Bs, South Canterbury £3 Bs, arid Wanganui £6 15s. On the motion of Mr. F. Campbell, it was decided that "It is the intention of the council to collect the outstanding fees; that there* can be no refund of these dues; and that associations dues are outstanding be written .... asking for payment or a definite promise to pay at some future date."
