BILL CRITICISED IN HOUSE
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
IN SWEATING,
(Reuters Telegram.) i (Received Ist July, 2 p.m.) LONDON, 30th June. In the House of Commons during the Committee stage of the Coal Mines Bill, Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald said that the Labour Party regarded the measure as too bad in principle for them to attempt amendment. Labour would Wipe it off the Statute Book at tho first opportunity. The only amendment submitted by Labour was by Commander WedgwoodBenn, in proposing to insert a provision that the Bill might bo suspended or repealed by resolution of both Houses. Commander Benn said that foreign countries were closely watching such legislation. He did not wish the measure to start international competition in sweating. The amendment was defeated by 230 votes to 25. Labour members abstained from voting.
