ROLL OF HONOUR.COMPILED.

Royal Engineers and of. tho Engineers of the Dominions of -Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and the sappers and miners of the Indian Army, .will be included in the national memorial to Lord Kitchener in ■ Sk*. Paul's Cathedral, London.' -7 -;. , .The Roll of Honour of the Corps of ' -New Zealand Engineers'.has been com - : piled, and has been suitably inscribed on vellum. It is bound in blue morocco. Jcathor and will be/forwarded in'- a -Maori carved casket. 'The casket is de--1 signed after the Maori wakn huhv- or ■treasure box, and is a fine example of .the Maori art of carving.' The carving ' :on the lid represents a; double niahaia ,or bird-headed.figure, surrounding 'the .'sun god, Tane to Ra Nui, who guards• •the contents, and there are.two recum:bcht figures with Yprotrudhig tongues 'signifying defiance. The figures at each • ■end are typical of the old art heads .used for handles of treasure, boxes. The '^ :waka huia was carved from one piece ,of New Zealand totara, which had been ■in use as part of the structure-of-the ; Queen's YTharf, Wellington,- for: over ! sixty years. .' '•- . Lieutenant-Colonel ;D. Jv Gibbs, ■ D.5.0., N.ZJE., has ; been responsible for the preparation of. the roll, and .arrangements arc being jhade for,it to be deposited with the, Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's'in a- suitable; and ; worthy manner. A sapper _ of' the Royal" Engineers will be in attendance daily to show the roll.'of honour: to those who wish .to; search for the -names of relatives or friends- who gavo their lives in the 'Great War. l\The carving of the'casket was done by Mr. Thomas Hoberly, Petone, the inscribing of the, roll by Mr, W.R. Bock, Wellington, and the binding by • Messrs. Ferguson, .and Osborn, Ltd., Welington. It will''be exhibited in kessrs. Littlejohn and Sons within the 'next few days. .
