"THE MAN ON THE BOX."

If people laughed with glee when they saw Syd Chaplin in "Charley's Aunt," they will be more amused when they see him in "The Man on the Box." This Master Picture will be the main feature of the programme commencing at the Empress Theatre on Friday. The.supporting feature will be "Stage-Struck," a Paramount production starring Gloria Swanson. Involved in' a series .of romantic adventures, and in political intrigue, Syd Chaplin is wildly amusing; but as the flirtatious ladies' maid he is great. Gloria Swanson is a stage-struck waitress in a small country town in her latest Paramount picture of that name. With the aid of a travelling showman her life ambition is realised, but with what results? Many of the scenes are done in techni-colour, which means that they appear on the screen in natural colourings. Ford Sterling appears as the travelling showman, Geiftrude Astor is cast as an actress, and Lawrence Grey is seen as the stage-struck girl's lover. The box plans for the season are on view at The Bristol.
