MEET EMPLOYERS NEXT WEEK
COMPLETE DEMANDS NOT
AVAILABLE,
It -was announced to-day that the conference between representatives of New Zealand miners and representatives of the coal mine owners to discuss claims by the miners for a new agreement will be held next week. The actual day has not yet been decided on, but the conference will probably take place in the early part of the week. The demands made by the miners have not yet been forwarded to the coal mine owners, but some indication of their nature has already been given. In the first place, the miners are asking for a five-day working week. That this demand will be strongly resisted by the owners was forecasted at the annual meeting of owners in Dunedin in the early part of this year. The miners, on the other hand, arc stated to be disinclined to modify this particular demand. It is understood that other claims by the miners are of a revolutionary description, and it is possible that next week's conference will be protracted.
