MAGISTRATE'S COURT
At the Magistrate's Court to-day thirteen persons were brought up on charges of drunkenness. Three men and one woman, first offenders, were convicted and discharged. John Cumisky was fined 10s; Thomas Gillespie was fined 20s or fourteen days' imprisonment; John Neill, fined 10s; Joseph Taylor, fined 10s; Robert Harcus, fined 10s; and John Maddock, for a third offence, was fined £2. On a charge of assault, Andrew Moyes was remanded till Friday. A young Maori named Ben Hakaraia, who was accused of wilfully damaging an electric globe, was also remanded.
For being found by night without lawful excuse on • private premises, William Scott was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment.
Frederick Herring, yrho was charged with being drunk while in charge of a motor-car, was remanded till Friday.
Mr. W. H. Coy, J.P., presided at a sitting of the Mount Cook Police Court today. A third offender for drunkenness; Anter Jenson was fined £5, in default 6ev.'«i days' imprisonment, and two second offenders, Thomas .Elliott and Albert Murray, were each fined 10s or 48 hours. A fine of 5s each or 24 hours in gaol was imposed on two first offenders, and another first offender was fined 10s or 48 hours.
