DAMAGE AT RAROTONGA
LOSSES ON WATERFRONT.
! The Secretary of the Post and 1 Telegraph Department reports: receiving a report from Earotonjja, dated 8 ■•. a.m. on Thursday, stating that a severe northerly storm had been raging since midnight. The Union Company had lost both his launches, and the majority of its lighters.. Considerable damage was done on the foreshore, but no material damage to dwellings had . been reported. Heavier seas we're expected with, the high tide at 9 a.m. . ;-
The Cook Islands Department ;, ha: received the following radio message from the Resident Commissioner, datet Barotonga, Ist April, 8.45 * p.m.:— '' The storm abated at 3 p.m., with -th« wind in the west.. The lowest baro meter reading was 29.48 inches at; 10 a.m. It is now rising- steadily, am the wind is south-westerly, the mai* wharf is intact, but the small' wh'arl and Avatu Wharf are badly damaged Serious damage has been done to'fruit but its extent is not available, -as tn< roads are blocked. No loss of life no; material damage to houses is report cd. Aitutaki Island reports that {th« storm was severe, but. did no damage except to the wharf, which is- scriousl; damaged. The islands of ' Atiu :■' aifi Mangaia report no damage. .
