MAKARA COUNTY
It was stated at the monthly meeting of the Makara County Council to-day that only half the rate struck for the county had so far come>to hand. "It is undoubtedly the worst year for the payment of rates that this council has experienced for years," said one councillor.
Under the Bating Act the council has power to make an additional charge ou all rates outstanding at six months and fourteen days from the date of demand. After ■ome discussion, the council agreed to have the 10 per cent, additional charge added on due date.
