NGAHAURANGA GORGE
BOAD BECONSTBUCTION WANTED.
The question of: the^reconstruetion of Ngahauranga Gorge wag discussed at the monthly meeting of ■ the Makara County Council to-day.
It was realised, said the chairman (Councillor El Windley) that the council had responsibilities in this matter, and the council was now in a position to do something. The worst portion of the road from Porirua to Wellington was the Ngahauranga Gorge. He thought the gorge should be attended to first, as far as urgency was concerned. "Our byroads," said Councillor Winclley, "are not getting the attention they, require. The byroads are being- used more every day by motor traffic, and it is necessary that we should look ahead and see we keep them'up to the mark as far as i^is possible to do."
, Councillor Windley moved: "That an offer of £12,000 be made to the^ Main Highways Board on condition tnat it takes over-the roai and reconstructs it from the Ngahauranga Gorge to Tawa Flat." " ;,
Councillor Windley said he considered the Main. .Highways Board would accept the offer. Other councillors agreed with. Councillor Windley's remarks, and the motion was carried. •
