NORTHLAND TUNNEL
QUESTIONS REGARDING THE
INQUIRY.
Qnestions regarding- the Northland tunnel inquiry , were asked at last night's meeting of the City Council. Councillor Semple asked: (1) the reason why the Press was excluded from the inquiry, and (2) if witnesses wero being called, and if so, in what way were they being informed that their evidence was necessary. Councillor H. D. Bennett raised a point of order. He doubted whether any reference shonld be made to the inquiry while the ease was being investigated.
Councillor B. A. "Wright (who was in the chair at the time) said that he thought that the questions were rather premature, as the inquiry had not yet commenced. The Commissioners were simply going into the matter in order to get a proper grip of it.
Councillor Bomple: "I understand that they have decided to exclude the Press."
Councillor Wright: "I don't know that"
Councillor A. L. Monteith asked if any of the suggestions made by councillors had been included in the order of reference.
Councillor Wright replied . that he could not speak on that subject.
The question of improving the bathing shed accommodation at Evans Bay is to be considered in connection with th« framing of the estimates for the coming financial year.
