SOUTH SEA COCONUTS
Without the coconut tree.the beautiful islands of the South Sea would not be what they are, and.some would not even support human life that now are the happy abode of many people. There is absolutely nothing about the coconut tree that is not useful.to man, and most things about it are useful in. many distinct ways. Its fruit is food and drink combined. The meat, of its coconut is cut up and dried in the sun becoming copra, the value of which is steadily rising' the world over as more uses are found for its oil content. .The shell of the coconut,is made into drinking cups and utensils. One frond from its spreading branches makes two baskets, easily woven after the Btem is split down the middle, and used for, many purposes by South Sea islanders. Its bark and the wood in its trunk have many uses, too, in building and in. the making of wooden implements.
