CRICKET

PRIMARY SCHOOLS' ASSOCIATION

The annnal meeting of the Wellington Primary Schools' Cricket Association was held in the Education Board room, Mercer street, recently, Mr. R. W. Edwards (president) being in the chair. Nineteen delegates from the various Wellington schools were in attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented and adopted, both documents showing a very satisfactory state o£ affairs. Thanks were due to the Wetlesley and Masterton Clubs for Jhe generous donation of a cup to the Wellington,, and Wairarapa Schools' Cricket Associa-r. tions for annual competition. Ihe gut was greatly appreciated, and gave bright promise to the future. Trophies of the same. type were still required for the junior grades. , . The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. W. Bird, chief inspector of schools; president, Mr. P. M. Jackson; vice-presidents, Messrs. Edwards, Bowman, and Bennett; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. N. Grono; hon. auditor, Mr. B. C. Feltham; Management Committee, Messrs. Bird, Wbitehead, and Howarth. The Selection Committee (Messrs. Bowman, Rogers, Bennett, Pottinger, Paul, and Mabin) were thanked for the able way in which the selection of the teams to play against Wairarapa last year was carried out. It, was gratifying to know that both the representative matches resulted in a win for Wellington. The year ahead promised to be successful from all points of view. Although the standard of school cricket was necessarily affected by last year's epidemic, it was hoped that this year the standard would once more be brought to its former level, and it was with confidence that the association looked forward to a year of successful cricket.

The association desired to place on record its appreciation of the courtesy of the Reserves Committee in placing council grounds at its disposal during the past year. Thanks are also due to the Management Committee for the way in which the business of the association had been carried out.
