TEACHING OF EVOLUTION FOR-
BIDDEN.
(United Press /Association—Copyright.) (Reuters Telegram.) NEW YORK, Bth February. A telegram from Jackson, Mississim, states that the House of Representatives passed a Bill on Monday preventing the teaching in schools supportod in whole or in part by the State of the theory that man descended from the lower order of animals.
It was the State of Tennessee th-it first set 1 the example in prohibiting the teaching of tho Darwinian theory of evolution in the State schools. This action was challenged by one J. T. Scopes, and a now famous tria'. took place at Dayton, Tennessee, w'leie tho late William Jennings Bryan supported the prosecution, and Mr. Clarence Dai-, vow, the New York advocate, appcan <1 for Scopes. The action, of the State was upheld,and Scopes was fined.
