UNFAIR TAXATION
HEAVY BURDEN ON BISHOPS,

With the object of avoiding what is rcgardeß,?as unfair taxation, reductions in the stipends of the Archbishop of Canterbury from £15,000 to .€SOOO, the Archbishop of York, £10,000 to £3000, the Bishop of London, £10,000 to £3539, the Bishop of Durham, £7000 to £2339, the Bishop of Winchester, . £8500 to £216(5, will be proposed at the Church Assembly, opening in London on Bth February. The dignatories at present pay Jncquio super-taxes oil their full stipend, from which they meet church as well as personal expenses. It will_ also be proposed that the archbishops" shall lmve pensions of £1500, the' three bishops named.of £1000, and others of £SOO, towards the cost of which they will pay 3£ per centum of their stipends. The scheme provides better pay for, the poorer clergy.
