A burglary and a fire occurred at a Remuera house this afternoon, ami there is strong evidence to suggest that the two were related.

The house is owned and occupied by S. H. Agai-, and is at 12, Ascot avenue The house was empty in the afternoon, as Mrs. Agar is away on holiday. A neighbour saw a man in I the garden, but did not suspect anything. Shortly before 5.30 a passer-by saw smoke coming from a window, anil immediately gave the alarm. Tho Remuera and city brigade's answeri\l the call, aiid neighbours helped to put out the lire.

, It was found that there were five distinct fires iu the house, fc\vo beitij,' in the same room. There was aleo ample indication that someone btul previously gone to the back of the house, aiid, rinding it impossible to get in, had entered the front room through the JTieiich window. Drawers were found pulled out and the contents thrown about the room, nlthough nothing has yet been missed. The house antl contents are insure.!.

An entry was also made to-day into the house of C. J. Muhon, Vincent avenue, Remuera, which is close to Ascot avenue. When members of thu family returned to the house it was found that the drawers had been removed from their places, and the contents thrown about in confusion, but nothing was missed. »
