INDICTMENT QUASHED
AN ECHO OF AMERICAN OIL
SCANDALS.

The Federal Court of Appeal has dismissed the indictment,., charging the misuse of his office by Senator Wheeler in connection with the Teapot Dome oil permits, thereby ending the cases, "begun, following Senator Wheeler's prosecution by the Senatorial Investigation Committee which involved the Department of Justice.
Senator Wheeler was the leading member of a Committee set up to inquire into the activities of the Department of Justice in tho United States. He was arrestec! in Montana on Bth April, J924, and charged With accepting a retainer, after becoming a Senator, to influence the granting of I permits to work oil lands. After a [ lengthy trial ho was found guilty, but , sentence was deferred pending appeal.
