Replying to Victoria's total of 413 in the Sheffield Shield match, New South Wales to-day carried their score from two for 149 to seven for 466 (Andrews 61, Taylor 66, Macartney 59, Kock 81, Kelleway, not out, 46, Gregory, not out, 25). The weather was. dull, and the wicket in Rood order. The Victorian Gelding w« poor, but the bowling commanded respect, all the batsmen, except Macartney, playing sound, steady cricket. * -Macartney batted brilliantly and attractively, showing a great variety of resource, while Rock played a solid, careful innings, and took no chances. The bowlers used the off theory a lot, but the majority of the bftsmen refused to touch it. Poor fielding wai responsible for a good many rune, and was frequently "barracked." x
