NELSON, 28th December. Excellent weather prevailed during the Christmas holidays, though on Christmas Day one or two liglit showers of rain fell. On Christmas Eve the city streets were crowded; plenty of music was supplied by the Regimental, Silver, and Pipe Bands; and many shops did good business. There was a large influx of country visitors, and some hundreds of visitors from the North Island have also arrived. Boxing Day was very bright and warm, and all the popular picnic resorts were well patronised. Sunday and to-day were beautifully fine. The Waimea Lawn Tennis Sub-asso-ciation held a very successful tournament at Wakefield on Boxing Day. The tenth annual meeting of the Dovedale Athletic Spovt Club was held on Boxing Day. There was a very large attendance. All the events were well contested. A cup given by Miy.R. P. Hudson, Ml 1., for the most points in running events was won by P. Cowin. The Burnett Shield, for most points throughout the meeting, was also won by P. Cowiu. The chopping competitions and sheaf-throwing were very interesting events. On Saturday, at Blenheim, the junior representative team defeated Blenheim by 28 rune. Blenheim batted first and made,JJ6 runs; Nelson, first innings, made 30. In the second innings Blenheim made 29 and Nelson 65. In the junior representative game between Nelson and Waimea Nelson won by 170 runs.
