BEACH GALAS

There was a big crowd yesterday at the beuch gala at Lyall Bay, where conditions were idcul for a. wholesome day's entertainment. The side-shows were well patronised and i'un on the merry-go-rounds, and ocean waves and other "deviceK" waxed fast and furiouu. At night dancing Avas enjoyed on the Parade, and this will be a-regular feature of the gala. This evening all the side-shows will be open. Following is tho result of yesterday's baby competition:—Gills, Lucy Horrice and Shirley Sutherland, 1. Boys: Brian Cook and Trevor James Page, 1; Konald Kobinson, 2. Late entries:' Esma Drindrid, 1; Lauretta. M'Donald, 2. Tho show for babies under 18 months will take place next Friday, Ist January, and foe those- under two years on Saturday, 2nd January. Special attractions for New Year's Day and the (lay following will be the children's races and also races of every description for married ladies; the sand-building competitions will also bo held. .
