WANGANUI, 28th December. The North Island rifle shooting championships commenced to-day in fine weather t with the ghootinjr conditions generally good. Soler (Wanganui), 27, £1; Captain Simmonde (Wanganui), 27, £1. Match No. 1 Series, 300yds.—Rflmn. B. Holmes (Wanganui), 49, £5; S. Hunt (Suburbs), 49, £4; F. Hood (Featherston), 49, £3; Captain Simmonds (Wanganui), 48, £2; T. Orr (Greytown), 48, £2.

Taranaki Match, 500yds.—F. J. Soler (Wanganui), 49, £5; F. S. Hood (Featherston), 49, £4; President C. J. Nix (Featherston), 49, £3; T. A. Marett (New Plymouth), 48, £2; J. M'Kenzie (Opaki), 48, £2.

Tyros Match, 300yds.—H. L. Rnle (Petone), 47, £2 10s; F. H. White (Okawa), 46, £1 10s; D. Spelman (Pohangina), 46, £1.

Tyro Taranaki Match, 500yds.—E. L. Braithwaite, 46, £2 10s; J. Griffiths (Opaki), 46, £1 10s; D. M'Govern (Linton), 46, £1.

There are 101 competitors, considerable fewer than last year, owing to the rifle matches held in connection with the Dunedin Exhibition. The North Island championship aggregate will be fired to-morrow afternoon.
