FOR POLLING DAY
WHAT THE LAW PROVIDES
The General Election will take place next Wednesday, and there are certain provisions 'of the Legislature Act which must.bo borne in mind as affecting Election Day. Section 123 of tho Act provides that licensed hotels must be closed after 12 noon. Employers in businesses governed by tho Shops and Offices Act may.-give the weekly half-holiday on polling day in lieu of the appointed ;iay, but tho closing hour for the weekly half-holday fixed by icqwisi--lion-or award-must be observed. Subsection 3 of section 123 reads:—"lt shall not bo necessary for any factory to close during any working hours on the. polling day, but the occupier of the factory shall afford to each of his uiiployccs a reasonable opportunity of recording his vote, and no deduc--lion shall bo made from the wages of any such employee in respect of the lime occupied in so recording his vote, •provided that such 1 Lino docs not exceed one working hour."
