PETONE CENTRAL

A large gathering of visitors, members and ladies, were present at the opening of the Petone Central Bowling Club on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Pawßon, who presided, regretted that the weather had made the greens unplayable. Members, he said, would wish Mr. T. M. AVilford, their patron, who was unable to attend through illness, a speedy recovery. Mr. Pawson alluded to" the popularity of the club, in which the bowling, tennis, and croquet sections each had a full quota of members. He paid a tribute to the excellent organising work of the ladies of the croquet 'club for its benefit. Tho grounds, under the care of Mr. Shardlow, the yreetikeeper, and Mr. Leatham, the caretaker, were in excellent order, and laid out to the best advantage. Hs wished everyone luck for the season. The Mayor of Petone (Mr. J, \\. M'Ewan) declared the green open, and wished the <:-lub good fortune. His breezy speech wns met with "For He's a Jolly Grind Fellow."
