PREMIER'S STATEMENT
GENEROUS OFFER REFUSED
BENEFIT FOR ALL WORKERS,
{Received 29th August, 11.50 a.m.)
BRISBANE, This Day.
The Premier, in again outlining the Government's attitude, hold that the responsibility for the inconvenience and loss due to the strike did not lie with the Government. He said: "Just as the Government has done all that any reasonable body of men could be expected to do to prevent the strike, bo it will continue to use every effort to bring about a settlement."' ,
. He regrets that the Railway Union's exeoutive, in refusing to accept the Government's generous offer, failed to seize an opportunity for securing benefit for all the -workers in the State rather than for a section. That was the full purpose of the Government's offer of a 5 per cent, increase in wages.
