NGAIO'S PROGRESS

QUESTION OF ACCESS SWIMMING POOL CONTEMPLATED. The annual meeting of the Ngaio Progressive Association was held last night, the president (Mr. H. L. Cummings) in the chair. The'report referred to the success attending the provision of a. Town Hall for Ngaio. The scale of rates prepared was such as to allow of the fullest use being made of the hall for all purposes. Provision had been made in the plans for a library room, equipped with book cases and reading tables, and tho room should be available shortly. It was expected that the_ water and drainage schemes would be in operation in some twelve months' time. The entrance road had been inspected, and as n result the Council had served notice on property-holders on the northern side to prevent permanent buildings being erected pending widening of the roadway from the Kaiwarra Post Office to the tannery. Plans for the lighting of the roads had been prepared. A satisfactory railway time-table was now operating," concession tickets being appreciated, and amongst other improvements, a ladies' waiting-room was to be added to Ngaio Station. j The president referred to the need for the protection of remaining native bush, more especially as it was hoped to shortly establish a swimming pool, which would be the more appreciated in the natural setting of native bush.

On the motion of Mr. B. J. Lynneberg, the report, and a balance-sheet showing a credit of £41 8s 2d, were adopted. The election of officers resulted :—President, Mr. H. L. Cummings; vice-pre-fident. Mr. W. Radcliffo; secretary, Mr. P. 6. Stringer; committee, Miss .M'Donnell, and Messrs. Hail, Guy, Turksma, and Davis.
