DELEGATION DEPARTS

FOR MELBOURNE CONFERENCE,

' The Empire Press delegation, 'with the numerous party travelling with it, left at noon to-day for Sydney by the Ulimaro», en route for the Empire Press Conference at Melbourne. A large gathering assembled on the wharf to say good-bye, and many of those who had j entertained the delegates during their brief stay in Wellington since Tuesday evening lost went aboard the Sydney boat to bid a personal farewell to the visitors. The delegates were enthusiastic in their appreciation of the warmth of hospitality received ,and expressed regret that the stay had not been longer. Heavy rain fell the greater part of the morning, and the departure took place in a drenching shower. This did not damp the enthusiasm of those aboard and those ashore, and the vessel move off to the singfng of "Auld Lang Syne," and the waving of the broken streamers in the wind. Cheers were given by the delegates for Wellington and New Zealand, and cheers by the crowd on the wharf for the visitors and the Old Country. The whole scene was characterised by the greatest good feeling, and it was clear that the visit had made an impression on both guest and host that would not soon be forgotten. The delegates will stay a week or two in Sydney before proceeding to Melbourne. The New Zealand members of the delegation are:—Sir George Femvick (Dunedin), and Messrs. H. Horton and C. W. Lees (Auckland), and W. Dinwiddie (Napier).
