FULLY EXTENDED

CHESTNUT HILL, 27th August. Patterson and Hawkes were fully extended by G. M. Lott and E. Williams for the right to enter the semi-finals. The Australians led in tho first set, the | games going with the service till sixall, when Patterson lost his delivery. The American, pair played brilliantly, serving and smashing consistently. Patterson was brilliant throughout, and has never played better, carrying j Hawkes right through the match. With ' the Australians two sets down, Patterson took control of the court, "poaching" for winning shots. He nonplussed Lott and Williams with wonderful returns from almost every serve_ mid overhead stroke. Lott and Williams began weakening in the fourtli set, and Hawkes ' improved in the fifth. ■ The Americans had the Australians at the brink of defeat, but they faltered arid succumbed after one of the most brilliant exhibitions on the Longwood Cricket- Club's courts this season. Vincent Richards and R. N. Williams played consistent tennis, and defeated M.'Alonzo and E. Flaquer, the Spanish pair. Williams was superior in all departments, but Alonzo was patchy. This display improves the American Davis Clip pairs' chances in the final. <*DSTBAUAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLB ASSOCIATION.) (Received 28th August, 12.3CF p.m.) j CHESTNUT HTLL, 27th August. \ Patterson and Hawkes are the sole survivors of nine foreign entries.
