ISLAND BAY ELECTORS' ASSOCIATION
At the August meeting of the executive of the Island Bay Electors Association a letter was read from Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.. (Wellington Suburbs), indicating that ho would' do all possible in tho direction of increased postal facilities for the district.
A recent letter on the subject from the association to the Post nusteiMiencral pointed out that Island Br.v contained one thousand Lull "lings, filty of which we.ro business pramit:e3; and that there existed everywhere a dislike on the part of peoplo to transact moneyorder and other confidential business over any business counter in their home suburb; consequently much of the suburban business was taken to the city offices.
An amended constitution and rules, to be submitted to the association, provide for the holding of a half-yearly meeting of members for the discussion of matters of local interest.
The association, it was stated, was at present concentrating on the construction of the fish-landing wharf with the dual idea of giving tho seventy or so local fishermen better conditions to. land and handle a considerable portion of the city's food in a more sanitary manner, and to keep the beach free, not only from boats and nets, but fish offal arid flies, which have for years so marred the full enjoyment by the public of this picturesque pleasure resort.
The recently-appointed organiser for the association is Mr. Horace Dixon, of 96, Derwent street, to whom annual subscriptions may bo paid, or from whom information may be obtained.
