The Hon. D. H. Outline, who recently underwent an operation, has recovered sufficiently to get about again, and he was present in Parliament Buildings to-day.

Mr. Harold ■C. Heiidel, a Press representative with the American fleet, is proceeding to San Francisco by the Maunganui to-day.

The Rt. Rev. Bishop Sadlier, of Nelson,' is leaving by the Maunganui for San Francisco, en route to England.

Mr. J. M. Fleming, managing director of Messrs. Tiirnbiill and Jones, Ltd., is leaving by the Maunganni for Sim Francisco, accompanied by Mrs. Fleming and daughter.

It is officially announced (says "The Post's" London correspondent) that the King has approved the appointment of General Sir Alexander J. Godley, X.C.8., K.C.M..C4.,- Colonel, the Royal Ulster Rifles, to be Aide-de-Camp-Gen-eral to His Majesty, in succession to General Sir Thomas Morland, X.C.8., K.C.M.G., D.5.0., deceased. The nomination dates from 22nd May, 1925.

Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., has received tho following message from the Auckland Provincial Council of the National Party :—"Auckland Provincial Council of National Party records its deepest sympathy with you on account of enforced retirement from leadership of the party through ill-health, and places on record its . highest appreciation of tho great services you have given on behalf of party and people of ■ New Zealand, and trusts that your trip abroad will restore you to good health and return to take your place again in the public life of this country." ■*.

An old settler in tho person of Mr. Henry Jones has passed away in Palmerston Nojjth Hospital. Deceased, who was 68 years of age, was a native of Australia, but came to New Zealand as a lad of eight years of age. He resided during his early manhood on the West Coast, living for some time at Dillmanstown, Kuinara, where he was connected with gold mining. He was also interested in diamond mining, and in that connection paid several visits to South Africa and Australia. During the past ten years ho had lived at Palmcrston North.
