The newspapers are perturbed over the situation in Syria. The."Echo de Paris" demands the recall o£ General Sarrail. .It says that the Druses number 60,000, and are supported by Arabs, while the French are short of troops, having had to send reinforcements, to Morocco. The paper adds that Captain. Carbillet, Governor of the Jebel Drases> exasperated the population by.Vexatious and arbitrary methods. "Le Journal" asserts that foitign influences are responsible for the agitation.
A telegram from Beirut says' thati'a French punitive .column -advancingi .on Jebel Druse was obliged to:'.withdraw owing to ci sudden attack .by Druses' upon its transport. : .
