The n»w»paper«, dealing with. th.l Syrian revolt, i»y that the Druses ar« demanding the rec*H of General, Sax*,. . rail's mbordinate, Captain Carbillet, ' who ii said to have treated the native* ■ : arbitrarily and vexatjouily. The trouble culminated when Carbillet forbade -Arab chiefs to offer hospitality to trav^llere, insisting that the travellers should' pati „ ronise a, new hotel.- The Arabs ,de* murred against the violating of their ancient traditions of hospitality, and hinted that Carbillet was financially mi terested.in the hotel. Carbillet there-.. upon arrested, and' punished by compell-: ing them to work on the roads, such chiefs as continued to. entertain travellew.
General Sarrail refused to receive ai deputation of chiefs, headed by Nessib Bey, asking for tEe recall of Carbillet. "very well, our riflei shall ispeak," said iNessib Bey; and a revolt of sixty thousand Druses began two days Inter. .
