ILLEGALLY ON PREMISES
DANGER OF FIEE.
James Ward, aged 43, a native of Ireland, charged beforo Mr.' W. G. Riddell, S.M., this morning with being found without lawful excuse on premises at No. 100, TaraJiaki street, but in circumstances that did not disclose the commission, or intent, of any other offence, said he did not know he was there, having been drinking heavily. Sub-Inspector Hollis said that Ward had a long list of convictions for similar offences. The building in Taranaki street wa3 an old one. Ward was found asleep there. His Worship: "You are liable to a fine of £10. You will be fined 40a, in default seven days'. Your presence in an old building in a high wind such as last night's is a danger to the neighbourhood from fire." Charles Ryan, aged 49, a native of England, also found in the same building in similar circumstances, but without previous convictions, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence, if required, within three months, if he left town before Monday. • "This man comes from the country," said Sub-Inspector Hollis. "He is not so well known about the town as Ward. He wants a chance to got away to Masterton."
"Get out of town right away," ordered the Magistrate.
