The first motor-car to Teach the Wliakapapa cottages on Ruapehu in the Tongariro National Park made the trip on Tuesday, states tho "New Zealand Herald." It contained the Mayor of Aiickland, Mr. G. Previously, a'l transport to tho Whakapap.i cottages had beftii by horse-driven vehicles, by pack- horse, or by parties on foot. The completion of tho Biuce road, which runs in practically a straight line for nearly five miles from the WainiarinoTokaanu road to the .cottages, has been constructed solely by labour from the prison, camps. The work has taken about a year. The erection of a bridge over, the Whakapapa River above the Haunted Whare now permits motor-cars to run from the main road to the" cottages, without lirublc. .
