OFFICIAL PROGRAMME FOR

FIRST WEEK

PREPARATIONS WELL FORWARD,

Preparations for the reception of the American Fleet, which' left Australia yesterday and is due to arrive in New Zealand next Tuesday,, are well advanced. The flagship Seattle, with the Cohimander : in-Chi<!f, Admiral Coontz, aboard, will berth, all being well, at the Fipitea Wharf about 1 p.m., whila the remaining vessels—the Pennsylvania, Richmond, and Relief, the last at Clyde quay—will follow. It is suggested that 'business people allow their employee* an extended lunch hour at this time to allow them, to witness the spectacle of the fleet's arrival. The matter is at present under consideration. Public buildings will be festooned with flags and electrically illuminated at night. The scheme for the Town Hall is specially fine, designed on comprehensive lines by the City Electrical Department. OFFICIAL PROGRAMME The official programme for the- entertainment of the American Fleet in Wellington was released on Thursday by tlm Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. R. F. Bollard. The whole of the programme has received the approval of Admiral Coontz. The first week's programme is as follows —: TUESDAY, 11th AUGUST. 2 p.m.—Seattle berths. Official Ca115.—2.15 p.m., Commodore calls on Admiral; 2.45 p.m., Admiral calls on Governor-General-; 3.5 p.m., Admiral calls on Prime Minister and Ministers; 3.25 p.m., chairman Harbour Board calls on Admiral; 3.30 p.m., Mayor calls on Admiral; 3.35 p.m., General Officer Commanding New Zealand Military Forces calls on Admiral; 4-p.m.; Governor-Gen-eral returns Admiral's call; 4.15 p.m.,. Prime Minister and Ministers return Admiral's call; 4.30 p.m., Admiral returns call of chairman Harbour Board; 4.45 p.m., Admiral returns Mayor's call in JViayor's rooms, Town Hall. 5 p.m.—Civic reception to Commander-in-Chief, Town Hall. 7 p.m. —Government House dinner to Admiral Coontz and principal officers. 8 p.m.—lndependent Order of Oddfellows : Lodge welcome to American Lodge, Concert Chamber, Town Hall. 8 p.m.—Private dance, Mrs. E. Palmemon North arrive 10.55 a.m., Palmeraton North depart 6 p.m., Wellington arrive 8.45 p.m. 10 a.m.—Municipal observation cars for 250 men to view city and environs, Lambton railway station. 1 p.m.—New Zealand Club luncheon to Admiral Coontz and 12 officers, in Gamble and Creed's, Lambton quay. 3 p.m.—English-speaking Union's reception to Admiral Coontz and 50 officers, Dominion Farmers' Institute. 9 p.m.—Citizens' ball, Town Hall, to Admiral Coontz and 50 officers. SATURDAY,. 15th AUGUST. 12.45 p.m. train—Fifteen officers to leave for Rbtorua. . j 1.15 p.m.—Baseball, ship v. ship, at Petone. Teams to be entertained after match, and invitation extended to ship's band.
