DE LUXE THEATRE.
"Gerald Cranston's Lady," probably the most popular novel of the past twelve months, and which has had a successful run as a magazine serial, has now been filmed, and was screened for the first time last evening at the Oe Luxe Theatre. James Kirkwood and Alma Rubens head a cast of exceptional merit, and Emmett Flynn, the director, has succeeded in transferring to the screen all the colour and spirit of this remarkable story. "Gerald Cranston's Lady" deals with a titled lady who, impoverished, sells herself in •marriage to an ambitious financier. The union is purely one of convenience, Cranston using his newly-found position to further his business interests, and Lady Cranston using his money to educate her child and maintain her position in society. But Fate intervenes, and Cranston "is faced with business disaster through the manoeuvres of Gordon Ibbotsleigh, a ' man who had loved Lady Cranston, and who was trusted by her husband. Later comes the climax, gripping in its intensity, when Cranston and his lady find love as they face the future together. Others in the cast are Walter M'Grail, Marguerite de la Motto', J. Farrell MacDonald, Lucien Littlefield, and Templar Saxe. Tlie supporting pictures are also of a very high standard. A feature of the entertainment is the pleasing musical score submitted by the orchestra, under Mr. L. D. Austin the overture selection, "Higoletto" (Verdi), and "The Welling festival" (Burgmein), played as an cntr acte, proving specially delightful.
