RESULT OF REFERENDUM.

BERNE, 25th May. A referendum on the question of the establishment of a fund of 250 million francs for a system of sickness, disablement, and old-age insurance, covering not only the insured but their dependants, resulted in the rejection of the scheme by 385,000 votes to 283,000. The result is a. victory for the Bourgeois Party, who favour an alternative scheme prepared by the Federal Council, under which only the aged and orphans will benefit, while, the sickness and disablement portion of the scheme shall .bo postponed on.financial grounds.
