TRENTHAM NOTES

(By ,i' Vedette,")

The recent wet weather has mad.c the course at Trentham' very* soft, and although the Otaki Meeting is only a week away no galloping tracks were available this morning. The sand was open, but the carting of material to make it of real service has not yet been completed. The majority of the horses were out doing trotting and cantering in the middle of the course, and few did pace work on the sand.

S. Reid's rising two-year-old, Climax, the brother to Nadarino, has become troubled by the throat affliction similar to that which appeared on Nadarino just prior to the Hawkes Bay Meeting. It does not appear to have any ill-effect on the youngster in himself.

Anthem has been brought in again, and has joined S. Reid's active brigade. Tanadees was scratched for all his Dunedin engagements as soon as the weights for the first day appeared. He is to race at Otaki. This morning he moved nlong freely when cantering in the middle of the course.

Kuhio and Otauru will also race at Ofcaki. It is understood that they -will not go to Dunedin. Similarly, a change of plans has been made in regard to Degage. Oarawock has returned to Trentham, and was out walking in the middle of the course this morning, looking none the_ worse for his Wanganui exertions. It is announced that he will not go to Auckland, and his movements in the future are uncertain. • His stablemate, the two-year-old Assert, is building up into a useful type of a horse. It was reported at Trentham this morning that Mr. A. M'Donald has purchased Rowley, and that R. S. Bagby took possession of the Polydamon three-year-old after the Wanganui Meeting. Although it has not been possible to confirm the report, it is quite on the cards that the Wairarapa owner has acquired Rowley, for he is just the type of horse to suit Mr. M'Donald's requirements. Fool's Paradise returned to Trentham at the conclusion of tbs Wanganui Meeting. It is his owner's intention to spell the Absurd colt through the winter H. Telford has Black Rod in work again.. The four-year-old is carrying a good deal of condition. Sottano and Star Shell wero outdoing easy pacing. This pair may be taken to Awapuni to be trained during the winter months.
